This is very interesting. I am amazed that it has take so long to get into this research. 30 years ago, teaching Psychology 101, I used to have a section on sleep and dreaming. One of the exercises that I assigned students was to practice the procedures to elicit lucid dreams and to report on it in a paper. Not all were able to do it but I was surprised how many were actually able to lucid dream. It is a real phenomenon and is of interest to neuroscientists and our understanding of brain function.
