I recently read an interpretation of the Drake Equation that posited alien intelligence is so rare, that we may be the only intelligent species within our observable universe. I hope new detection techniques such as this invalidate that interpretation some day.

Even if the technology could be created, there are papers showing you couldn't push the bubble faster than light. There is even a paper saying you could only create a static bubble. I very much doubt this technology could exist. I am sure as well, that if such research is conducted it will be like the fast gamma ray bursts we see in the news. A lot to do about nothing, with a natural explanation...
