Any scientist or doctor that still considers the appendix to be vestigial or useless should have retired long ago, as it has been known to be neither vestigial nor useless for several decades now. No structure that has appeared independently multiple times across mammalian evolution could be considered vestigial or useless. The idea it was vestigial came from early human anatomists with very little to no comparative anatomical understanding and was sadly repeated in human anatomy texts long after it had been debunked by scientists with a broader understanding of mammalian anatomy and evolution. The lesson from this (and several other similar errors) is that people studying human anatomy need to get out more.
