When did Homo sapiens first appear?

I already think 300,000 years is enough evidence for a civilization popping up before 12,000 years. If they ever show we began around 1 million years though, I would say with 100% certainty that civilization started way before we think it did! It's just to much time, we took only a few thousand years to get here. Imagine what you could be with 1,000,000 years!

The appearance of Homo sapiens was still way before the advent of civilization. Our ancestors were migrating hunter-gatherers.

There is evidence supporting homo sapiens for up to a million years ago. There is no evidence supporting civilization for more than about 12,000 years ago. Civilization means a lot more than just bands of humans.
