Quantum computing will evolve just as all our other technologies have. The more research is done, the more we will be able to apply the knowledge we gain. But saying quantum computers will never be practical and current algorithms make it impossible are simply short-sighted opinions. We will never have a completely accurate value of pi, but that doesn't mean what we have isn't useful, does it.

i hope that quantum computers never pan out as they will be used to harm people, they will not be used to make life better, they will be used with the money and power to harm those without.

Odin, you could say that about any technology and still, here we are, centuries after the Middle Ages have passed, and our society is working much better and much more "humanely". What is the exact maximum level of technology that you think we should adhere to in order not to harm people? 1800? 1900? right now?
