More than eight planets orbit the Sun, as dwarf planets are a subclass of planets. Please do not blindly repeat the controversial IAU position without acknowledging the ongoing debate on the definition of a planet. According to the geophysical definition, a minimum of 13 planets and counting orbit the Sun.

Indeed, just because they have found a lot of smaller planets out there past Pluto was the real reason this whole reclassification fiasco got started, it doesn't change the fact that everyone considered Pluto to be a planet up to that point. To me, if it has enough gravity to arrange itself into a sphere, and isn't a moon, it's a planet.
