Why is it that the way a species has evolved to survive and perpetuate its own is termed as horrifying? What humans do to each other by waging war and ignoring social ills is more horrifying than the natural actions of this insect. Stop using bombastic and over-the-top language to describe things in nature that you are uncomfortable with. Is it different? Yes. Horrifying? I think not, especially when wasps similar to these have been known about for many, many years. It would be horrifying if there wasn't any environment left for these insects to still survive.
