A new study shows that invasive Joro spiders are surprisingly "urban tolerant," which could enable them to take over cities and other urban areas across the U.S. East Coast.

"Take over cities" is quite the exaggeration. Scientists are saying that they are adaptable and will become more common. The fear-mongering language in this headline is ridiculous. Do better.

Beyond the sensationalism, this is the most poorly written article on this paper so far. For example, written here: "In the laboratory, the study team used tuning forks to simulate the vibrations given off by highways..." this sentence if wrong, twice. 1) none of this was done in the lab, 2) vibrations were used as simulated prey, nothing was used to simulate highway noise. I know us scientists are supposed to be better at communicating our science, but J.C. these writers aren't even trying. Tough not to feel "down" about the situation.
