Satellite images show the moon's gigantic shadow sweeping across North America during the April 8 total solar eclipse. Astronauts on board the ISS also captured stunning shots of the enormous dark patch.

"...anyone who experienced a darkened sky outside of this route was experiencing a penumbra or antumbra." No. The antumbra is where you see the moon completely within the disc of the sun (as in an annular eclipse). Since this eclipse was total, I don't see how anyone could see the antumbra. Umbra and penumbra, yes, but not the antumbra. Not in this eclipse, I don't believe.
