Grinding rocks into clay sized particles may absorb water, But hardening removes water as clay minerals in shales are diagenetically transformed or metamorphosed into slates.

Lol if he did take 2 of every insect it could of been a bad idea lol. I dont believe any verse specifies insects. But they could also survive on a piece of floating wood. OrIt could explain why they are found on every continent.
