Why is it taking so long to roll out Covid-19 antibody testing to the general public?

Antibody testing will be a game changer in terms of knowing who has already been infected and is (at least temporarily) immune. It would impact all of the models that currently exist and provide a much clearer picture of our situation. The tests exist. Other countries are doing it. Why is the US not making a mass effort? Is it the FDA dragging its feet and if so, why??

US scientists have been working on developing possible methods for this, which has been reported on here:

But just today there was news that a firm in the UK has begun dispatching prototypes for a 10-minute $1 test for Coronavirus that should help improve testing capabilities.

Absolutely - and it's super encouraging to see how fast scientific / biomedical research is coming along when there's such an urgent need for it. Quick, highly available testing should be incredibly beneficial to stopping the spread of the pandemic, as well as alleviating anxiety.

Any thoughts on a timeline? It sounds like the FDA is now approving antibodies tests. I would assume health care providers and military might be first but how long before a test might be generally available to the public? A month? Three months? Longer?
