Or... Maybe she thought she was Protecting (rather than Neglecting) her calf, by the attacks? Perhaps that was her intent, all along.

This article provides a biased narrative on these incidents that is harmful to the conservation and protection of orca. We should be focusing more on how to protect these species so that they do not feel the need to attack vessels. Maybe it was out of defense or protection that they felt the urge to attack - or maybe it was just play. We don’t know.

There are also reports from biologists in the area that it was actually a juvenile that attacked the boats, not the mother.

It certainly isn’t scientific, educational, or helpful to say that an orca is neglecting her children to attack boats just to boost your website’s read count.

Stop posting stories without giving all the information or facts just for click bait. As journalists, you have an obligation to objectively report news and explore what the observations mean, not dramatize it for an extra view.

They also had an article on how fearsome to humans oceanic whitetips are without mentioning they are critically endangered.

This is a very destructive opinion.

Footage from research boats shows the orcas in question are more likely playing when they push the rudders.

Quote:
A new, ongoing research project by orca specialist Renaud de Stephanis, which involves presenting the wild orcas with dummy rudders and filming them, has revealed fresh insights into these encounters... "They're pushing, pushing, pushing – boom! It's a game. Imagine a kid of 6, 7 years, with a weight of three tonnes. That's it, nothing less, nothing more,"

It seems like either hypothesis may be true. The article points out that the big mother started the behavior. Regardless, I don't think anyone is vilifying them. The Biologist is implying that she feared the boat so much that she attacked it despite having a calf.

Maybe Gladis identified rudders to shark tails bt the shape and colour of them, she does not attack all the boats round there.
