Well, there are still another ways to achieve herd immunity.

1. The way of flu vacation of Mechnikov.

2. And yet still another method -- attenuating the variant and convert it in variant producing mild infection. Should be attributed probably to the old trakies (tribe that lived in north of ancient Greece, some 3000-1500 years ago). They loved their cattle and sheep. They noticed that any partially restrictive measure actually worsen an infection, producing just more virulent illness (nowadays we will call selection by filtering, for example with face mask).
So the trick was to promote the reverse situation. After all what better way to distribute a vaccine than use the same virus as conta fire.

But seeing how the viruses and the vaccines are going, and how the organization, I'm pessimistic about the herd. The pastor will survive.
