There are a couple of iPad apps from the Howard Hughes Foundation, called "Ancient Earth: The Breakup of Pangea" and "Assembly of Pangea." The first covers 200 MYA to today, and the second 540 MYA (the Cambian Explosion) to 200 MYA. These feature interactive graphics, showing not only how the continents drifted (I suspect the pre-Pangea timeframe is a bit more speculative) but also the overall temperature of the Earth, the advance of the ice sheets, sea levels, global CO2 levels, global oxygen levels, some details on what kind of flora & fauna thrived at each timeframe you zoom into. Endless hours of fascinating fun.

Wait, there's another iPad app I discovered a while ago that's even more comprehensive: EarthViewer.

Same basic idea, just a lot more information. And thus recommended over the others.

Unprecendented? perhaps the level of detail is or the shortness of it, but such animations have been broadcast on tv before as part of documentaries, old news..
