The electric hum of life may have originated with primordial lightning

The article says: "When living things are screened [blocked] from a geomagnetic field, they don't develop right." (more elaboration is needed on that but...) Hmmmmm. What if we birthed and raised some organisms with an artificial geomagnetic field of different frequency? (study is needed but...) What kind of mutants might we come up with? Radiation immune would be a good one. We could grow astronauts from birth that can live in space with no consequences. Now... I’m sure you physicists, teachers, scientists and preachers will all come in h'year and straighten me out…

A car's battery can be jumped by another electrical surge. A human being and many other species can be revived with a electrical jump. Experiments in lab dishes are sometimes charge with electric surge to start life. So why shouldn't the lightening be the spark of life for all trees, vegetation, and all kinds of life no matter what life we are talking about. Then it also makes you wonder what happens when there is very little or no lighting in the future because of global warming causing there to be less clouds. And the clouds that the Earth will have then will be what I call evaporating clouds because all they do is evaporate water from the Earth and not produce rain as they then disappear as the Sun evaporate the clouds.

Lots of red flags here. The authors are geophysicists, not biologists. Levin, which as Hitsched notes makes an unreferenced claim - and what about organisms that have devloped on ISS - is a biologist but started out as an engineer [ https://wyss.harvard.edu/team/associate-faculty/michael-levin-ph-d/ ]. Lin, which is supposed to review the biology, is a electrical and computer engineering professor, and one of the people that thought the US embassy in Cuba was attacked by sound generators when it was subjected to insect sounds. And the paper is acknowledged as "a result of years of discussions among the authors", so not much of experimental work. Their own work seems to be confined to observations of cell cultures from rat hearts, who has a pacemaker activity around 5-6 Hz - rodents evolved 60 million years ago.

Life evolved in the oceans, and ìt was much later that atmospheric lightning would have been an environmental factor. But their hypothesis is actually aimed at explaining the electric activity of nerve cells, which evolved much later and is the primary function in them. From the membrane function that makes an action potential, nerve cells are able to emit such at rates of 10 - 100 Hz.

Where does that Sun evaporated water go?

We are CONSTANTLY bathed in a wide spectrum of high level electromagnetic energy, it comes from TV, RADIO, public service, radar, cellphones and tower sources etc, The military has very powerful transmitters operating on frequencies from the very bottom to the highest. Many of us ARE afflicted in different ways, some are so hypersensitive to EMF that they must live in places that specifically prevent any form of emitters and are far from TV and radio stations, All that only reduces the strongest sources, we are blasted with microwave emissions from Satellite's and high frequency stations from throughout the world sometimes as strong as a local station, There are methods of shielding most frequencies but they are generally expensive, especially for the bottom frequencies!
What is essentially an allergy to electromagnetic fields is slowly being acknowledged by the medical community, A person taking their strange symptoms: flushed skin, rashes, nausea, upset stomach etc. To doctors will after numerous inconclusive tests be often considered a hypochondriac and sent to a psychiatrist.
There so far is no cure other than getting away from the emissions, It seems to start out from one emitter such as a video monitor but seems to spread with more emitters creating the symptoms. It's not surprising that many ARE afflicted, we have been developing for over 100,000 years and were only exposed to lightning sourced EMF until when electric lights and appliances were introduced at the worlds Fair in 1850, There has been exponential growth in number, bandwidth and emission characteristics ever since.
