Orion capsule bounces off atmosphere to complete hottest and fastest reentry ever, capping off NASA's Artemis 1 mission

The rocket and the mission was impressive. There is another type craft coming that has even more thrust. And one after that, that will have much, much more thrust. It's a thrust race.

Why not simply send the most qualified Astronauts to the moon? Limiting to just one woman and one (so called) "black" person could (for example) be preventing an all woman team from going; if those individuals were the best currently trained and available.
I had figured that racism and sexism would've been a thing of our past by now, yet it looks like we are intentionally exporting those inauthenticties to the moon.
Maybe we can leave those inauthenticties there?
I do love each One of you.

Because merit and competence has been replaced with technology. As our technology increases our competence and talent decreases. This was predicted decades ago. Why spend years developing a talent, when an appliance will do?

Female astronauts have fewer opportunities in space than men because of strict lifetime radiation exposure restrictions, A six-month mission on the International Space Station exposes astronauts to 40 times the average yearly dose of background radiation that a person would receive living on Earth,
A six-month mission on the International Space Station exposes astronauts to 40 times yearly dose of background radiation that a person would receive on Earth,

While the level of risk allowed for women becouse they have a lower threshold for space radiation exposure than men,
"Depending on when you fly a space mission, a female will fly only 45 to 50 percent of the missions that a male can fly,"
And what happened to putting the best candidates in space like we did in the '60s when we had a head-to-head competition to determine who had the best ability for which Mission instead of trying to fill political agendas to put a person of color and a female on the moon!

By doing the "Lunar Bounce" the need for a big retro-booster to slow down the capsule is done away with quite neatly. This means more stuff (scientific jargon for experiments and equipment) can be sent into Lunar orbit... or perhaps to Mars as well.
It is also easier on the Astro/Cosmonauts, making two deceleration insertions (with less "G-forces involved) than the old "one shot and down". After all, the Lunar capsule hits the atmosphere a lot faster than an Earth-orbital one, with consummately higher deceleration forces than just a planetary orbiter.

Good point, but then there are the Japanese, who abandoned swords centuries ago and thus raised both the weapon and its usage to levels that "utilitarian" methods could never achieve. IMHO, appliances will enable improvements in competence (less distraction) and utility (less need for basics), thus making instrumentality a means of improvement in application. After all, we're using computers these days for all sorts of things, thus relieving the need for the basics and allowing overall improvement in application.
We could never have these conversations by mail or phone, now could we?

I suspect the "Woman" and "Black (or other non-Caucasian person)' is more a political statement than anything else, but what it does do is make a statement: Gender and Skin are no longer disqualifiers for Astronautical service.

I understand your counterpoint about "appliance". Cars were going to ruin the buggy and whip business, And typewriters will put too many people out of work. But all lives were improved....with this progress.

This appliance is much different, this appliance makes decisions. It even makes decisions in court. And legislatures. And way too many in academia.

But it's also making many decisions in all aspects of society for all. And one decision for all.

And there is no such thing as collective discernment. This is not improving our lives.

We no longer have a society, we have a nightmare.
