But there was a Lunar eclipse on May 5 1100. That is what made the Moon dimmer than the stars.

That’s puzzling... is there an explanation for that?

As I mentioned below, there was a Lunar eclipse on May 5 1110. That is what caused the Moon to be dimmer than the stars. Maximum eclipse was at 22:58 UT. England would have experienced the full eclipse.

Yes, I remember that dark night long ago. However, one can never rule out the hand of the Great Flying Spaghetti Monster as the cause of the moon disappearing.
