Apparently the Moon was much closer to the Earth, at least according to some theories. Was there not a problem with the Roche Limit which would have caused the Moon to be ripped apart by gravity?
Interestingly, it has always been moving further from the Earth (according to some). I wonder if moon's resistance to being ripped apart has anything to do with the the inconsistent gravity on its own surface.
