Mile-wide asteroid, the largest yet of 2022, flies safely by Earth

It wasn't mentioned in the article, but why don't we see objects with much higher velocities, once in a while? Everything we see locally is moving comparatively slowly.

Many believe that we detect star mass that are moving much faster than we've seen fly by.

One would think there should be more varieties of velocities. But they are all, relatively the same, compared to the speed of particles and EM velocity. It seems gravitational mass, moves slow. No hot rods?
