Lignite

[Clueless]

We have a limestone quarry in St. Stephens Alabama. We have a layer of dark material near the bottom at around 50’ in elevation I think may be young lignite does this make sense to y’all.

Forest Hill formation and Red Bluff clay (MSOGf;0)

Geologic unit mapped in Mississippi: Forest Hill sand, cross-bedded fine gray sand, laminated fine sand and clay, and a little lignite; in Wayne and Clarke Counties lower part merges eastward into Red Bluff clay, blue-green glauconitic, gypsiferous, fossiliferous clay and thin limestone beds.
