While we are amazed by new discoveries in astronomy, the snowballing of technology experienced in the past few years illustrates the increasing chances of our own event happening at any time.
Such displays of power not even measurable by our methods was always there. We are beginning to realize this and the feeling of "cosmic insecurity " is the natural reaction of human kind.
Comfortably careless and apathetic is the status quo of humans who haven't witnessed a possible partial extinction, and that has been for many thousands of years. I think we should be prepared to experience a cosmic event such as the newly discovered star's powerful CME.
That isn't an unnecessary statement of terror. It is rational to expect being affected by an unexpected calamity at any time.
We've been too long without an event showing us where we stand. It will happen again and that is a surety.
