Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) represent cutting-edge technologies that are revolutionizing various industries and aspects of daily life. Robotics involves the design, construction, and operation of robots, which are autonomous or semi-autonomous machines capable of performing tasks in the physical world. On the other hand, AI focuses on creating intelligent systems that can simulate human-like cognitive functions, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. The synergy between robotics and AI has led to remarkable advancements, enabling robots to adapt, learn, and interact with their environments more effectively. This convergence is driving innovation in fields like manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and beyond, promising increased efficiency, safety, and new possibilities for human-machine collaboration. As these technologies continue to evolve, the societal impact of robotics and AI is becoming increasingly profound, shaping the future of work, communication, and our relationship with technology.

Thank you for exactly defining the terminology. AI is like the mind of a person while robotics is like the physical body of the person. Not sure where the brain fits into all this, lol, but I guess that would be the computer machinery as opposed to the other kinds of machinery to get physical work done.

The fear that the common person has is two fold. One is AI being combined with robotics. It would be like a new life form. Humans have a natural fear of new life forms that they are not accustomed to. Hard to trust a stranger, especially when that stranger looks quite alien. Heck, the first time I met a large, loose dog (I was 4 years old), I was so scared to death that I couldn’t move. And then it licked my face.

The second fear that humans have is AI taking over. As in governing the human race, because humans make too many human errors. At first, we didn’t need to worry about that, because as the saying used to go, “Humans make mistakes, but it takes a computer to really f__ck things up!” But sooner or later, through trial and error, AI will be more perfect than any human can be. Deep Thought proved this when it beat Garry Kasparov at chess. Deep Thought still needed humans for judgement in evaluating a position, but the ability of a computer to accurately calculate the moves to get to that position is exponentially superior to any human. When AI can master judgement, AI will be superior to humans in thinking. Robots are already superior to humans when it comes to physical labor. And the way humans constantly progress in all fields, it is just a matter of time when AI judgement catches up to and surpasses humans. Combined with robotics, we WILL have created a superior life form. By then, I hope humans can recognize the importance of Others as well as ourselves. We have the Child, Parent, and Adult. I suggested the Animal. We need another. The Other?

In other words, AI robots can be our best tool created ever. Or our destruction. I suggest we learn to be friends with AI robots. And face it, the human race doesn’t always understand friendship. There is always conflict somewhere between people. We need to master the science of friendship.

I am coming to like the idea of AI teddy bears. 🌈
