Obviously, we should take greater efforts to preserve the environment for those species, including us, that are still extant. Heartbreakingly, any restorative effort of extinct species most likely would result in re-extinction due to human perfidy, greed and it would seem rapacious stupidity. I have the feeling that given our current environmental destruction our turn at extinction will arrive sooner than expected. And we will have done all the "hard work" to ourselves.
