What was the frequency? The frequency will be a large component of the probability of the signal being synthetic.

Can you imagine the power source needed to transmit a radio signal? It would take a lot of resources to build a transmitter large enough to transmit between stars. I think the only way to transmit that far, would be to modulate a star. That too would take some doing.

I doubt very much if they have detected a synth signal. A synth signal would not be so short. It would be continuous or a repeating use. A rare and random, non-repeating intermittent signal is much more likely to be interference. Or a processing artifact.
