Did I misread? I thought the article dated the gate ca 583 bc, 3 years after the fall of Jerusalem, which is the time lapse one would expect between the event and the actual building, no?

Eh no, the fairy tale books found in tanakh are not valid historical sources. Use science instead of superstition.
David, I'm not sure who your comment is directed to. The article doesn't talk about any fairytale books. This is science based discovery. Maybe I'm confused by your response.

I think the main conclusions make sense, except that the bricks examined may have only been produced around the same time and could still have been completed in later phases, after Neb II's death. Planned, but delayed, phases possible as well. Just a thought.
