Are there any work on the creation of at least some kind of space elevator, or is it just talk?

An international team of scientists from the United States has developed that one of the varieties of a space elevator can be built using modern technology. In this case, we are talking about a "bridge" connecting the Earth and the Moon. According to the researchers, it is feasible using technical means from an economic point of view, using the tools and materials that humanity is using at present moment. The main bridge, or "spaceline", includes the fact that it will serve the Earth only once a month, which means less stress from the centrifugal force. The structure itself will not touch the surface of the Earth but will be located at an altitude of 42,164 kilometers above its surface. It will allow free movement from near-earth orbit on the surface of the satellite and will reduce the required fuel to a third of the current amount. According to scientists, for the construction of the bridge, there should be a composite material like the invented Zylon polymer. At the Lagrange point, where the gravitational forces of the Earth and the Moon are balanced, it is possible to build a "base camp" for conducting experiments, launching probes, and also to create additional stability for the entire structure.

Every year some scientists say that we can do it. Is it just scientists fantasizing or is there a plan?

Previously saw the news that a Japanese company had designed a miniature prototype of a space elevator. The company is called Obayashi Corporation. The company is ready to present its own clothes no earlier than 2050. According to the project, the space elevators of this construction corporation will reduce the cost of transporting orbital cargo. This means that instead of $ 22 thousand per kilogram, customers will be charged only $ 200 since they do not have to pay for the launch of the rocket and the purchase of fuel. I haven't seen any news since then.
