So this machine was 155 yrs old when it sank? I find this hard to believe for any machine.

It's much more likely for me, that the start range isn't related that strongly to the build/construction date. For me, the build date should be closer to the sink date. They might have had several completed cycles on the range. For reference or ease of calculation.
