Wondering if anyone has done a study as to what these will morph into after a few million years of sedimentation & pressure. Still, 15M tons is a drop in the bucket to the billions of tons of sediment washed out the Earth's rivers every year.

I visited Corregidor several years ago and was stunned by the number of "flip-flops" washed upon the shore. One especially stunning image was a tiny one floating all alone on the sea.

Hoping to get down to Plastic Beach one of these days.

Microplastics do absorb chemical pollutants that can be transferred into the organism's tissues. Small animals are at risk of reduced food intake due to false satiation and resulting starvation or other physical harm from the microplastics. It is a pity for how the small animals cant lives longer because of the pollutions.
